It’s the final week of Comfort Food Month! To end the month in a manner fitting with the spirit, I decided to bring you a treat that hits a few different comforts: soft beer pretzels and beer cheese dip. We’ve got chewy bread, gooey cheese, salt and spices, and a hint of beer. What more could you need?
February is notoriously cold and dreary in Cleveland, so I am making the executive decision to declare it comfort food month at I Wanna Bake! I’ve already got a handful of recipes for comfort food on here, but I decided to go all in this month and focus on satisfying calorie bombs. To kick things off, I’ve made for you a snack my husband and in-laws introduced me to: bagel dogs.
Happy New Year! I hope 2017 is off to a good start. I know everyone has probably made resolutions that might not fit with today’s bakeventure (which is basically three layers of calorie overload), but sometimes you just need a little comfort food. Enter: chili cheese dip!
Have you ever been in the position of reeeeeally craving a particular food, but not wanting to exert the effort of leaving home to get it, much less cooking it yourself? For Josh and me, this happens with garlic breadsticks at least once a month (somehow my focus has shifted in recent years from bread formed into knots to bread shaped like sticks instead). Often, this results in at least half an hour of waffling between sucking it up and going out and wistfully giving up on them. The thought of making them from scratch almost always crosses my mind, but I usually toss it aside as too much effort. This time however, I decided to accept the challenge with gusto.
I first saw a version of this bread on the Great British Baking Show, and I knew I had to try it. It’s simply too pretty not to make. However, being who I am (and knowing that my husband hates butternut squash), of course I had to make some revisions to the recipe. I decided to add some herbs and spices to the dough, and I went with an almost entirely different filling. What I ended up with turned out pretty much like inside-out pizza without sauce, but I’m ok with that because it was delicious. It tastes best warm out of the oven, but it also tastes good cold. I am in the process of experimenting with freezing and thawing it, so I will update you on how that works out.
Aah, Chex Party Mix. How I love you so. In my mind, it’s not a holiday celebration without the Chex mix. Since the Super Bowl is akin to a holiday to many people, I decided to put a (mildly spicy) spin on a beloved classic in its honor. Admittedly, I couldn’t care less about football and usually don’t watch the Super Bowl, but I am quite an appreciator of snacks, so the day’s not all bad in my book. If you’re looking for a fun party snack, look no further!
Sorry for the delay today! Life got in the way a bit this week, so I hadn’t had the usual time to devote to writing. Fear not, though. Today I bring you Buffalo Bagel Chips! (Or at least the directions to make your own, I wasn’t planning on hand-delivering bagel chips to all my readers, though you are all lovely.) This week’s post was originally supposed to be about cinnamon pie, but that was a 2-day disaster, so bagel chips it is.
When I first came to Ohio, I was shocked by its pizzerias’ lack of garlic knots or anything remotely resembling them. Upon asking my Midwestern friends, I was met with quizzical faces. Imagine my befuddlement when I found out that not only can I not get garlic knots outside of New York, but no one even knows what they are. Clearly, the only solution (apart from returning to New York and never leaving again) was to make them myself.
